Multilevel Conference

Post-conference workshop: ‘Bayesian multilevel models in R using the package brms’

The post-conference workshop on “Bayesian multilevel models in R using the package brms” is taught by our keynote speaker Prof. dr. Paul Bürkner – TU Dortmund University.

The workshop will be about Bayesian multilevel models and their implementation in R using the package brms. At start there will be an introduction to multilevel modeling and to Bayesian statistics in general followed by an introduction to Stan, which is a flexible language to fit open-ended Bayesian models. I will then explain how to access Stan using just basic R formula syntax via the brms package for a set of increasingly complex models. The package supports a wide range of response distributions and modeling options all in a multilevel context. Together with the available post-processing and plotting methods, brms can be used for end-to-end data analysis following a principled Bayesian workflow, as discussed in detail during the workshop. We will go through several hands-on exercises in R. It is highly recommended to have a working version of brms installed on your machine to be able to run the exercises yourself.

Note that you can also register for this workshop without participating in the conference.

Please note: the workshop will take place at Utrecht Science Park, in the University Library in the Boothzaal. The address is Heidelberglaan 3, Utrecht.

The schedule of the workshop is as follows:
